Design & Technology

Design & Technology at Oakthorpe is about applying knowledge and skills to solve practical problems. It is a purposeful activity in response to real needs and situations. We support our pupils in applying their knowledge and skills, to the best of their ability, to succeed in designing and making a good product using a range of materials and tools. Oakthorpe children follow the design process of ‘Plan, Make and Evaluate' to design and make their products. They are able to research their topic and design from the planning stage in order to improve their ideas. 

As part of our Design & Technology curriculum, cooking and nutrition is a key component. The children gain experience each year through the planned cooking opportunities so that they learn about healthy lifestyles, seasonal ingredients and cooking skills. We believe that our children are excited by Design Technology, look forward to their next topic and become increasingly ambitious in their designs.
