Parent Governor Vacancies

We currently have two vacancies for Parent Governors.

Monday 25th November 2024

Dear Parents/Carers

PARENT GOVERNOR ELECTION

We are excited to announce that we currently have two vacancies for School Parent Governors.

I am writing to invite nominations of parents interested in standing for election to fill these vacancies.

This is a fantastic opportunity for parents to get involved in the governance of the school and make a positive impact on our community.

We would particularly welcome applications from those with knowledge and experience of marketing and Public Relations as this is a skills gap in our current governance membership. However, we welcome applications from all.

 Every parent of a registered pupil at the School is entitled to stand for election except someone who is

  • an elected member of the Council;
  • paid to work at the school for more than 500 hours in a 12 month period.

If you wish to stand for election, could you please let me know in writing by:  Monday 2nd December at 3.30pm

This may be by email to office@oakthorpe.enfield.sch.uk or by written letter.

Before you decide to put your name forward, you may wish to know a little more about what is involved.  Both myself, or our new Chair of Governors, Mrs Nuala McNeely, are happy to meet with you to answer any questions you may have. Please contact the school office and leave your name and someone will call you.

All prospective candidates should contact the school office to request the ‘Declaration of Eligibility Form’ which they should read, sign and return to the School to state that none of the information applies to them.

The successful candidate will be required to have a DBS check.  As this position is exempt from The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 you will be required to declare all unspent and spent cautions and criminal offences, including any pending convictions.  The disclosure of a criminal record or other information will not necessarily debar you from volunteering as a Governor.  This will depend on the nature of the position and the circumstances, nature and background of your offence(s).

Parent Governors have an important role to play in representing parents' views on the Governing Body and are crucial to the success of the school. We look forward to welcoming two new Parent Governors who share our dedication to education.

Yours sincerely

Mrs J Garrad and Mrs N McNeely (Chair of Governors)
